Ruud dominates semifinal against Rublev

Casper Ruud

In the second semi-final match of the 2022 ATP Finals, Casper Ruud and Andrey Rublev faced each other.

The head-to-head record was on the side of the Russian tennis player. The Norwegian had the only victory against him (last year’s ATP Finals). Besides, Casper lost all five other matches.

At this year’s finals, both of these tennis players played the group stage at the highest level, so the fans were expecting a tight and tense scenario. But the events did not develop this way.

At the start, the players exchanged two games. However, after that, Rublev’s game began to decline. The service was not working at all anymore and there were a lot of unforced errors.

On the other hand, Casper Ruud acted almost flawlessly, and thanks to his strongest forehand and backhand, he limited Rublev’s playing spaces as much as possible.

Ruud closed the first set 6-2 with two breaks. The second set was also full of problems for Rublev. The Norwegian managed to win eight games in a row. At 5-2, he was serving for the match, but the pressure from Andrey increased, he made one break back and tried to fight.

All this turned out to be too late. Ruud had already decided to win this match and did not failed again while serving for the match.

Finally, 6:2, 6:4. Andrey Rublev’s semifinal debut ended with a crash. Casper Ruud managed to get a ticket to the finals with his second attempt.

On Sunday, November 20, the Norwegian will face Novak Djokovic in the final, who is aiming for his sixth title and an unbeaten championship run.
