Jose Mourinho, the coach of AS Roma, has reportedly banned members of the club’s staff from the training ground as his team prepares for the Europa League final against Sevilla.
The policy was apparently put in place on Monday, with only essential staff, such as technical and medical staff, being allowed to enter the training base for sessions this week.
Why did Mourinho ban the Roma staff
The move is a sign of Mourinho’s superstition and his desire to ensure success in the final, which is set to take place in Budapest on Wednesday. Mourinho took similar measures last year in the build-up to the Europa Conference League final, which Roma won against Feyenoord to deliver their first trophy success since 2008.
Mourinho has often thrived when his back is against the wall, and this tactic is reminiscent of a siege mentality that has often yielded results for the charismatic manager.
His Inter Milan treble-winning side in 2010 reached the final with a backs-to-the-wall performance against Barcelona, holding just 14% possession during the match having gone down to ten men early on.
While Mourinho’s approach has been criticised at times, particularly due to his touchline antics, it has also been known to yield results. S potential second European trophy for the club would mark his place in history at the Stadio Olimpico.

The final will be held as Puskás Arena in Budapest, Hungary, which has a capacity of 67,215. The stadium, which was opened in November 2019, hosts Hungarian national team matches and domestic cup finals.
Match will be held on 31th of May and formal host will be Spanish side.
