Fernando Santos will no longer manage Portugal. The 68-year-old specialist left the team after 8 years of work.

Fernando Santos was under contract until the summer 2024, but the defeat against Morocco ended it early.

The coach with a degree in electrical and telecommunication engineering had a some successful periods in Portugal. In 2016, with Santos, Portugal became the European champion, and in 2019, they won the first competition of the Nations League.
Jose Mourinho is considered the leading candidate to replace Santos in the post. However, according to the Portuguese media, the current coach of Roma agrees to work for the national team.
