The former player of Norway national football team and Valencia, John Carew, was sentenced to 14 months in prison for tax evasion.
Carew, 43, was found guilty of concealing approximately 12.8 million krones (€1.2 million) of his income from Norwegian tax authorities between 2014 and 2019. Carew claimed to be living in the UK, but an investigation found he spent more than 183 days in Norway during the same period.
He was also found guilty of concealing 300 million krones (€29 million) in personal assets he had not declared. In addition to his prison sentence, Carew was fined 540,000 krones (€52,000). Oslo court said on Wednesday that the Norwegian Correctional Service will decide how Carew will serve his sentence.
Carew’s lawyer focuses on the verdict, which states that his actions were negligent and not premeditated. Now, this is the only useful circumstance for him.
Carew has played for Valencia, Lyon and Aston Villa and wore the shirt of the national team in 91 matches. After finishing his career, he started acting.
