At UFC 281, former lightweight champion and undoubtedly future UFC Hall of Famer Frankie “The Answer” Edgar left us.
The last opponent of the 41-year-old fighter was “El Guapo”, Chris Gutierrez, who knocked out Edgar with a knee in the first two minutes and ended the fight prematurely.
The former champion talked about ending his career with a loss in his personal podcast “Champ and the Tramp”.
“Everyone saw the knockout It is very disappointing, but there is nothing I can do. The crowd was chanting my name throughout the fight – before, during, and after the fight. I’ve worked really hard for this, I’ve put everything into it since day one, but who am I to complain about anything? I’ve seen both sides in my career, I know and I try to just be grateful for what I’ve achieved, to be happy with the way I’ve walked”
– said Edgar.
Frankie Edgar’s wife and children attended the last fight. It was the first time that Edgar’s children attended a fight at such an age that it would be memorable for them, which was more painful for the fighter.
“I didn’t want my children and family to see me like this because they would have to share the pain with me.“
During his 17-year professional career, Frankie Edgar managed to defeat such fighters as:
- Sean Sherk
- Jim Miller
- BJ Penn (three times)
- Charles Oliveira
- Cub Swanson (twice)
- Urijah Faber
