Jurgen Klopp officially took on his new role as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football on January 1, 2025. The German football mastermind, known for his charismatic leadership and tactical expertise, embarks on this fresh chapter after a legendary coaching career.
Klopp’s Legacy in Football
Klopp’s achievements speak for themselves. He guided Mainz 05 to the Bundesliga, won back-to-back Bundesliga titles and a DFB-Pokal with Borussia Dortmund, and led Liverpool to Premier League and Champions League glory – restoring the club’s status as a European powerhouse.
After nearly 25 years on the touchline, Klopp stepped away from active coaching in May 2024, leaving an indelible mark on modern football.
A Strategic Role at Red Bull
From January 1, Klopp took on a new challenge as Red Bull’s Head of Global Football. While he won’t be involved in the daily operations of Red Bull’s football clubs, he will play a crucial role in shaping their sporting vision. His primary focus will be:
- Supporting sporting directors across Red Bull’s football network
- Providing strategic guidance to coaches and staff
- Enhancing scouting and player development
Expressing his excitement about the role, Klopp stated:
“After almost 25 years in the technical area, I am delighted to be part of such a project. My role may have changed, but my passion and dedication to football—and the people who make it happen—remain the same.”
Klopp’s Bundesliga Appearances
Since stepping away from coaching, Klopp has made two Bundesliga appearances. He first attended a match in his hometown of Mainz in 2024. More recently, he was present at RB Leipzig’s 4-2 victory over Werder Bremen in the first Bundesliga round of 2025.
Seated alongside Leipzig’s managing director, Marcel Schäfer, and Red Bull’s global football sporting director, Mario Gómez, Klopp was the center of attention at the Red Bull Arena.
Upcoming Press Conference in Salzburg
Klopp will address the media about his new role at a press conference on Tuesday, January 14, in Salzburg, Austria. The event will take place at 14:00 local time (17:00 Georgian time).
The Setanta Sports team will be present, with Aleksandre Gabrichidze set to interview Klopp. Oliver Mintzlaff, Red Bull’s Executive Director of Corporate Projects and Investments, will co-host the event.
