Excitement is building as England Under-21s prepare to battle it out against Spain in the U21 Euros final, set to take place this Saturday.
After an incredible run in the tournament, which includes five wins without conceding a single goal, coach Lee Carsley believes that his side can still raise their game further in an effort to secure European Championship glory.
Speaking at the press conference in Batumi, Carsley expressed his confidence in his team’s abilities, stating:
“I think this team has another level to go, maybe two or three levels, and I think if they click, it will be a hell of a performance tomorrow – and I expect them to. I think the bigger the stage, you will see a bigger intensity from the team, so I am looking forward to it.”
Despite excelling so far in the U21 Euros, England’s players are wary of the challenge they face come matchday. Spain is an experienced opponent with a formidable track record in the competition. But Carsley says his team is ready for the challenge.
“Spain will be a tough team to play against. We’ve watched a lot of them and we are really looking forward to it. It’s important that we defend well as a team. We’ve got both parts well so far, in terms of defending as a team and attacking through the thirds quite quickly.”
As the players prepare for the final showdown, they’re reflecting on the hard work and dedication they’ve shown so far and keeping their focus firmly on Saturday’s match.
England U21 captain Taylor Harwood-Bellis stated:
“It would be massive (to win) for everyone. We are here and we are competing at a high level and putting good performances in. It would be highly deserved, and the team would be grateful to lift the trophy.”
For England, victory would mark the first U21 Euros win since 2009 and a fitting tribute to the skills and abilities of their young team.
As the anticipation builds, all eyes will be on Batumi, Georgia, as England and Spain look to make its mark on the tournament to finish the European Championship with victory.
